A Minimum 180-Day Waiting Period
You cannot depart until 180 days (about 6 months) have passed since the official Microchip Reading Declaration was issued by a government veterinarian or authorized officer.
There is no expiration date for the Microchip Reading Declaration, so if you plan to move your pet to Australia, we strongly recommend obtaining it as early as possible.
- · The Import Permit application and approval process takes about 1 to 2 months.
- · Booking a quarantine facility typically requires about 2 months lead time.
- · Once the departure date is set, medication begins approximately 1 month prior.
- · For dogs, a blood test is also required.
*If your pet has been previously imported from foreign country, the microchip would have been read at that time.If 180 days have passed since that reading, the waiting period can be shortened.Furthermore, if your pet has an import history from Australia, you may be able to apply for the Import Permit immediately without obtaining a new Microchip Reading Declaration, provided you have the Export Certificate.
